About Us
Our family has farmed this land for nearly 90 years and during this time Little Goldsmiths Farm has changed considerably.
In the 1940s it was a pedigree dairy farm, until the 1990s when the farm sold the dairy herd and increased arable (crop growing) production. We now farm all the land regeneratively, putting the soil and farmland biodiversity ahead of, or on par with, food production.
The 7 acre Dog Meadow has been part of the arable rotation for many years and is in need of natural regeneration. So it will now be sown with mixes of annual plants that benefit the soil, farmland birds and pollinating insects.
Whilst it is not being managed for food production, this creates an ideal habitat for curious canines who like to sniff and explore a diverse area. As well as the planted area, there are wide grass margins around the edge, a wild area that has been left to nature to reclaim and plenty of trees and bushes to run in between. The meadow is fully secure with 6 ft high deer fencing and will be checked by us daily. If you have any queries about the site or your booking we are always available via email.
We want to provide a beautiful space that encourages every dog’s natural behaviour and that stimulates them mentally as well as physically.
Our spaniel and boxers are lucky enough to enjoy the freedom of the fields on our farm and we know how much they benefit from the diverse landscape they get to explore. We understand the importance of well-being for all dogs, the meadow can provide a safe space for dogs that may be fearful of others or dogs who need to work on their recall.
Where some dogs have a high prey drive and love to chase, others may have just joined your family and are building their confidence in the outside world. The meadow is a great space for puppy socialisation without too many distractions (if you are a behaviourist and would like to use our meadow please get in touch with us). Take a picnic and spend some quality time with your best friend with peace of mind knowing they can have a good run in a safe space. We hope you enjoy this part of our farm as much as we do.
